The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is a premier organisation in the field of Social Science Research with Six Regional Centres, 24 Research Institutes and Five Recognised Research Institutes located in different parts of the country. During the last 50 years of its establishment, the ICSSR has been actively promoting and funding social science research in the country through various programmes/ schemes viz. An officer of the Indian Police Service, he served and occupied the key positions in the most volatile areas of Nagaland, Assam, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. The Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to national security, awarded him the Padma Shri in 1991. Singh was Police Chief of two of the largest states of India - Uttar Pradesh and Assam. He also commanded India's premier paramilitary outfit, the Border Security Force. Prakash Singh is the architect of Police Reforms in the country and is Chairman, Indian Police Foundation. He was associated with the preparation of the Encyclopedia of Hinduism under the guidance of Swami Chidananda Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh. He has also been closely associated with the activities of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, Presently, he is guiding the Kendra activities in Uttar Pradesh and is a Member of the Advisory Council, Vivekananda International Foundation.
