New Delhi, 5th December 2024: The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) is proud to announce the inauguration of its pioneering Research Internship Programme in Social and Human Sciences, an initiative aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP). The programme was launched by the Honorable Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, at the Kamla Devi Complex, India International Centre, New Delhi.
This internship programme aims to equip 40 bright young scholars with comprehensive research skills cutting across multidisciplinary fields such as Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Public Health, Development Studies, Cultural Studies, and International Relations, among others. With 25 female candidates among the selected participants, the programme underscores ICSSR’s commitment to fostering gender inclusion in research.
The initiative is inspired by the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to transform Bharat into a developed nation by 2047 to integrate knowledge, research acumen and 21st century employment and professional development skills. It bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, empowering students to engage in impactful research addressing challenges like climate sustainability, women-led development, agricultural innovation, and industrial transformation.
The programme adopts global best practices and incorporates advanced tools of data analytics and interdisciplinary methodologies, ensuring young researchers are prepared to address emerging social challenges in a rapidly evolving world. Interns will also gain firsthand experience by working in ICSSR’s various divisions, including the Research Fellowship Division, National and International Collaboration Division, and Publication Division.
Additionally, the ICSSR recently hosted a National Argumentative Essay Writing Competition for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD scholars on the theme "Simultaneous Elections in India: One Nation, One Election." The competition attracted nearly 3000 entries, including a significant response from female scholars and state universities, showcasing the nation’s vibrant intellectual energy.
