PRESS RELEASE: Prof. Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR elected as the President of Association of Asian Social Science Research Councils (AASSREC)

The 25th Association of Asian Social Science Research Councils (AASSREC) Biennial General Conference, which was hosted by the Korean Social Science Research Council (KOSSREC) and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences (NRC), Korea was held at Yonsei University from 14-15 June 2023. AASSREC marked its 50th anniversary in 2023 and through this Conference, it provided members with an opportunity to look back on Asian social sciences so far, discussed what role social sciences are currently playing in policymaking in each country, and what direction Asian social sciences should take in the future. It was a wonderful demonstration of the diversity of social science approaches from all over Asia. It is clear from the deliberation of the Conference that Asia is becoming an increasingly important player in the field of social sciences, and need to prepare for the next 50 years.

The 2023 AASSREC Business Meeting provided an opportunity for members to review AASSREC activities over the preceding two years, elect a new Executive Council, and discussed the goals and priorities of AASSREC.

The ICSSR is pleased to announce that Professor Dhananjay Singh was elected as the President of AASSREC.

The following AASSREC Executive Council elected for 2023-2025 are:

President: Professor Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR);

1st Vice-President: Professor Young-Ryeol Park, President, Korean Social Science Research Council (KOSSREC);

2nd Vice-President: Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT);

Secretary-General: Ms. Michelle Bruce, Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA)
