The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. It receives 100 per cent grant from Ministry of Human Resource Development for its various programmes and activities.
The Finance Division of the ICSSR plays a significant role in providing timely guidance on all financial matters like Planning, Administration, Monitoring, Management and Disbursement of funds. It provides prompt and effective assistance in examining all proposals with regard to financial involvement, audited statements, utilization certificate etc. received from various programmes/ divisions.

It may be observed from the Table-1 that the ICSSR grant has been increased significantly from Rs.1355 lakhs in 1997-98 to Rs.3097 lakhs in the year 2001-02 and its expenditure has also increased proportionately. It would therefore be inferred that the ICSSR has been giving due importance to the Research Programmes as well as supporting Research Institutes adequately
