ICSSR/NASSDOC Subscribed E-Resources
ICSSR, through NASSDOC, subscribes to a set of exclusive e-resources to support and strengthen social science research. These resources are available to all registered members of NASSDOC and cover a wide range of disciplines relevant to social sciences, enabling access to scholarly content needed for advanced research.
1. Brill Journals: Brill’s publications focus on the Humanities and Social Sciences, and a program that extends to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It includes several major imprints with a distinguished history of publishing high-quality and successful titles. Brill publishes more than 3,500 books and 800 journals per year. Nearly all titles are available in both print and online formats. Many of Brill’s journals are indexed by major abstracting and indexing services such as Web of Science and Scopus. All back volumes are digitized and included in the Brill Journal Archives Online, and the current subscription provides access to 389 journals.
2. Cambridge University Press eBooks: Cambridge University Press publishes a wide range of research monographs, academic reference works, textbooks, professional books, and a large number of titles aimed at graduate students. It offers more than 40,000 eBooks for the global market, with an average of 1,500 new titles added each year alongside its print publications. Of these, the current subscription provides access to 572 eBooks dedicated to the field of social science.
3. CPDx (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, CMIE): Consumer Pyramids Dx (CPDx) is a database that provides detailed information on household consumption and behaviour patterns in India. Based on the Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS) conducted by CMIE, it contains data on expenditures, income, savings, debt, assets, and consumer preferences. This makes it a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, and businesses to understand the economic landscape of India. The database is regularly updated and covers over 240,000 households, providing detailed insights into the changing patterns of household consumption and behaviour in the country. 4. IndiaStat (Datanet India): IndiaStat offers an extensive collection of statistical data essential for informed decision-making on policy issues, the development of social policy, and the evaluation of the impact of social and economic policies. It includes socio- economic statistics across a wide range of subjects, such as Administrative Units, Agriculture, Banks and Financial Institutions, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Companies, Cooperatives, Crime and Law, Environment and Forests, Industries, Infrastructure, Demographics, Economy, Education, Environment and Pollution, Foreign Trade, Forest and Wildlife, Geographical Data, Health, Housing, and more. Indiastat is a cluster of 56 associate websites wherein 19 websites are sector-specific, 6 are regional websites, and 31 websites are state-specific.(IP based access with in the library)
5. J-Gate (Informatics): J-Gate, launched in 2001 by Informatics India Limited, is an electronic gateway to global e-journal literature. It provides access to millions of journal articles available online from over 25,043 publishers. NASSDOC acquires journal literature indexed from 26,217 journals in the Social Sciences and Humanities, with links to full texts at publisher sites. The database covers over 11 million articles, with backfiles for many dating from 2001 onwards, and some from the first issue of certain publishers.
6. JSTOR (ITHAKA): JSTOR is an online archival database offering access to full-text journal articles from more than 2,800 across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. It includes contributions from over 1,200 publishers across 75 disciplines in more than 57 countries. Due to JSTOR’s archival mission, there is typically a 1-5 year gap between the most recently published journal issue and the back issues available. Subjects covered include Economics, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Geography, Education, Psychology, Asian Studies, Public Policy, Library Science, Population Studies, Management, Business, Marketing, Finance, Public Affairs, History, and more.
7. Prowess IQ (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, CMIE): Prowess IQ is a database of large and medium Indian firms, providing data on financial performance since 1989. It includes detailed information on 55,777 firms, covering all companies traded on India's major stock exchanges, as well as central public sector enterprises. The database encompasses organized industrial activities, banking, and other financial and service sectors in India. It provides quantitative information on production, sales, and the consumption of raw materials and energy. (IP based access within the library).
8. Sage Research Methods: Sage Research Methods Supports research at all levels by providing material to guide users through every step of the research process. It supports research at all levels with over 1000 resources, including books, reference works, journal articles, and instructional videos. It offers tools like the Methods Map for technique selection, over 1100 real research case studies, datasets for data analysis practice, and 125+ hours of instructional videos to aid researchers throughout their projects.
9. Scopus (Elsevier): Scopus is a vast bibliographic database by Elsevier, launched in 2004, indexing scholarly literature from over 44,070 journals, 5.5 million conference papers, and 22,000 books across various fields. It provides tools for tracking research impact, analyzing citation patterns, and identifying collaboration opportunities, making it a comprehensive platform for discovering and evaluating scholarly literature.
10. Statcraft: It is a web-server-based statistics and analytics platform that runs on the R statistical language on a browser-based GUI. Using this, one can easily bring in and organize the data, access some of the most popular data analysis techniques in R, and view the results in elegantly formatted output tables and graphs. It makes the process of data analysis more simple and easy without the need to focus on programming. The current version, STATCRAFT 3.0, provides a wide range of statistical techniques such as correlation, regression, various non-parametric tests, etc.
11. Statista: Statista is a global data and business intelligence platform with statistics, reports, and insights on over 80,000 topics from 22,500 sources across 170 industries and 150 countries. It supports data analysis, management, mining, machine learning, text analytics, and data visualization.
ONOS Subscribed E-Resources (Social Science Focused)
Government of India supported One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative provides access to selected digital resources for academic and research use. NASSDOC facilitates access to key social science e-resources subscribed under ONOS, thereby complementing ICSSR’s collection and enriching the knowledge base available to its members.
1. Annual Review Journals: Annual Reviews is a nonprofit publisher dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the advancement of science and the benefit of society. It publishes a total of 67 journals, including 19 Journals in the social sciences and economics.
2. Cambridge University press Journals : Cambridge Core is the online platform for academic content from Cambridge University Press. It is designed to help readers and researchers quickly and easily access a wide range of valuable resources. The platform publishes more than 420 peer-reviewed academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and science, technology, and medicine.
3. Elsevier ScienceDirect journals : ScienceDirect is a leading database of peer- reviewed literature, featuring 979 journals in social sciences and humanities. It covers historical context, current developments, theories, applications, and trends, helping users discover and utilize high-quality literature efficiently for research and academic purposes.
4. Emerald Publishing Journals: Emerald Publishing is one of the world's leading digital-first publishers, commissioning, curating, and showcasing research in various subject areas such as accounting, finance & economics, business, management & strategy, education, engineering, equality, diversity & inclusion, health & social care, HR, learning & organization studies, information & knowledge management, library & information sciences, marketing, operations, logistics & quality, property management & built environment, public policy & environmental management, sociology & criminology, and tourism & hospitality management. It provides a portfolio of over 300 journals authored by renowned academics and industry leaders from over 150 countries that can be searched by journal name or ISSN number and filtered by subject area.
5. Indian journals.com: Indian Journals.com is a vast collection of interdisciplinary Indian Journals and Research Publications. The collection provides access to 267 journals in the social sciences, Agricultural Science, Science, Business economic and management, Library science and Social Science.
6. Oxford University Press Journals: Oxford University Press Journals aim to meet the diverse and evolving research needs of students, researchers, professors, and practitioners by continually seeking feedback from these communities. The collection includes a total of 500 journals, comprising 106 in the social sciences, 83 in the humanities, and 49 in law.
7. Project Muse: Project MUSE is a leading provider of digital humanities and social science content for the scholarly community worldwide. For nearly 30 years, it has been a trusted source for essential humanities and social science research. Currently, Project MUSE hosts more than 800 journals and several open access journals on the platform.
8. Sage publishing Journals: Sage is an American academic publisher providing access to more than 1,440 journals, including over 200 gold open access journals in social sciences and humanities, offering original research and review articles to support researchers and institutions.
9. Springer Nature Journals: A global publisher providing access to 461 journals in social sciences and humanities. It covers areas such as economics, education, cultural and media studies, criminology, criminal justice, and religious studies, offering comprehensive service to the research community.
10. Taylor & Francis Journals: Taylor & Francis provides access to 660 peer-reviewed journals in social sciences humanities, International relations, Area studies, economic & finance, Geography and Law. It offers a platform for high-quality, validated research from leading minds worldwide, allowing users to search and explore millions of journal articles.
11. Wiley Journals: Wiley is an American multinational publishing company specializing in academic publishing. It offers access to over 2,000 journals, including 18 in the social sciences and humanities, making it one of the largest and most authoritative platforms for online journal collections.
