The advancement of social science research stands as a paramount objective of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). To fulfil this objective, the Council extends research grants to Indian scholars for the pursuit of research in social sciences.
On June 12 2023, ICSSR invited proposals from Indian scholars/researchers/academicians for short-term projects of 6 months’ duration on schemes and policy initiatives of the government. In all thirty-one themes / policy initiatives were identified for impact assessment by the researchers.
ICSSR received a total of 3801 project proposals in 2 categories - Collaborative Studies and Individual Studies. These proposals were submitted by academics / researchers from all over the country.
After rigorous assessment in two stages, evaluation of project proposals by the Experts and interaction of the shortlisted candidates, ICSSR has approved 514 proposals for the award. Out of these 289 awarded proposals are for Collaborative Studies and 225 for Individual studies.
ICSSR is pleased to share that nearly 40% of the awardees are women scholars / researchers. The awardees represent all 28 states and majority of UTs.
These empirical studies will be conducted by the researchers who are working in different universities, colleges and research Institutions located across the India.
After receiving final reports from the respective researchers under different schemes, a comprehensive report will be prepared by ICSSR on the reach and socio-economic impact of the specific scheme/policy initiative in India.
